Sean McMann is a partner at BARR LLP, where he practices civil litigation, and is the litigation department head. Sean’s particular concentration is in general corporate and commercial liability litigation, as well as land and property disputes, construction law, debt claims, and some employment and human rights matters. Sean also has experience working on tortious battery claims, civil claims relating to intimate partner violence and historic assaults, and defamation. Sean has appeared before all three levels of court in Alberta.
In 2011, Sean graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in music. He then pursued his legal studies, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Southampton, in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Canada, he was assessed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s National Committee on Accreditation, receiving his certificate of qualification in 2015.
Sean articled in the areas of family law, criminal law, and civil litigation. After his bar call, he stayed in civil litigation at the same downtown firm until joining the team at BARR LLP in the late summer of 2021.
In addition to his practice at BARR LLP, and spending time with his young family, Sean is a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta, where he teaches Professionalism and Ethics. Sean has been involved with the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Edmonton Fringe Festival committee in varying capacities over the past eight years, and is also a current board member of the Gateway Skating Club. Sean is also an active member of the Edmonton arts community, performing with both auditioned amateur and professional choirs, and continues to do so whenever possible.
