An Edmonton native and a founding partner of the law firm BARR LLP, Gordon has practiced law in Edmonton since 1977 and has been the first name in a law firm since 1979. Gordon has a practice concentration in Corporate/Commercial/Business Law, Wills & Estates and Estate Succession Planning and implementation.
He was very active in the Canadian Bar Association, Chairing the National Justice Business Plan Committee for several years and sitting as a member of its Business Law Subsection and of its Will and Estates Subsection, having formerly contributed to the national Intellectual Property Subsection and its precursor committees. He was very active in the Legal Education Society of Alberta as head of the Legal Profession portion of the Bar Admission Course and has lectured and delivered many papers on numerous topics to legal groups and the public at large.
Very involved in the community, he has served on the International Trade Committee of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is a former Director of the Effort Society, was a Trustee of the Devonian Botanical Foundation, was a founding Officer and President of the University of Alberta Law School Alumni Association and was President of the University of Alberta Alumni Association, a body with greater than 220,000 living members.
Gordon was appointed to the office of Queen’s Counsel in January 1996, received the International Phi of the year award from the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity in 2004 and the Alumni Centenary award from the University of Alberta in 2009 as its most outstanding volunteer. Gordon was the creator of the expanded Alumni Awards program that has honoured hundreds of deserving Alumni since its inception.
